The New York Yankees continue to evaluate options for their rotation, and Carlos Carrasco is putting pressure on them. In fact, the right-hander made a strong impression this Wednesday, pitching his best game of the preseason, with five scoreless innings.
He allowed only two hits, one walk, and struck out three.
With this performance, the Venezuelan righthander lowered his ERA to 1.69 in 16.0 innings, solidifying himself as a strong candidate to join the rotation. Yankees have to decide by this weekend what they will do with him.
After a difficult 2024 with the Cleveland Guardians (3-10 record and 5.64 ERA in 21 starts), he signed with the Yankees looking to prove his worth.
«When I signed with the Yankees, I only focused on preparing well for the season,» Carlos Carrasco told YES reporter Jack Curry.
CARRASCO’S REBIRTH IN NEW YORK
This preseason, Carlos Carrasco has shown dominance on the mound. His WHIP is 0.94 and he has struck out 15 in 16.0 innings, at a key moment in defining his future.
With Gerrit Cole and Luis Lara out, the Bombers need depth in their rotation.
Carrasco is competing with Will Warren, another standout arm in the spring training. However, his experience could tip the scales in his favor.
«The best thing right now is that I feel good and have control over all my pitches,» he commented after the game against Atlanta Braves.
Manager Aaron Boone praised about his performance: «Carlos has shown he still has a lot left in the tank. His command and aggressiveness in the zone have been key this spring.»

Carlos Carrasco signed a deal with the Yankees that allows him to opt for free agency if he is not added to the 40-man roster by March 22. If he maintains this level, he will secure his spot in the rotation. The Yankees need stability in their starting pitching, and the Venezuelan pitfcher is making a strong case for staying.
