Slugger Joey Gallo is tired of not being able to hit Big League pitches.
The 31-year-old slugger has a surprising solution to his recurring problem, which has left him hitting just .166 in the Majors since 2022.
From now on, he’ll be a pitcher.
Joey Gallo is a two-time Gold Glove Award winner in the MLB and twice surpassed 40 home runs in a season. He’s an elite outfielder, too. But strikeouts have made him extremely vulnerable.
The left-handed slugger has worn six different uniforms in the last five years. And this Sunday, he was released by the White Sox, the team announced.
Chicago extended him an invitation to Spring Training, hoping for a chance to land a cleanup hitter on the cheap. But Joey Gallo only managed two hits in 20 at-bats, with no home runs.
THE MESSAGE
Now without a team and no chance of starting the 2025 season in the Big Show, he surprised everyone with a video revealing his new personal project.
The video in question ends with the slugger pitching. And to make things clearer, he added a post below on his X account, clarifying what CBS Sports considered «a cryptic message.»
«Just to be clear, I will be pitching,» wrote Joey Gallo.
His powerful arm made him a formidable right fielder. Now he’ll try to make his right arm a new way of life in professional baseball.
In college, he threw a fastball at 94 mph. We’ll see how it goes.

Joey Gallo played winter ball when he was one of MLB’s top prospects, then with the Texas Rangers. He only played three games in Venezuela with the Navegantes del Magallanes due to an injury. But he homered in his very first game and posted 1.298 OPS. That was during the 2016-2017 season.
