Veteran Patrick Corbin has found a team to pitch with this Major League season, just under a week away from Opening Day.
The left-hander, a free agent since the end of the World Series, agreed to a deal with the Texas Rangers on Monday night and will be part of that team’s rotation.
NY Post columnist Jon Heyman revealed the existence of the agreement, as well as its details.
Patrick Corbin will receive just over $1 million in base salary in 2025, according to the analyst, plus incentives for his performance. The signing is a response to the emergency that occurred among the Rangers’ starting pitchers during Spring Training.
Jon Gray fractured his right wrist and was placed on the 60-day injured list on Monday.
Gray joined Cody Bradford among those out for Texas. The latter will miss several weeks with elbow discomfort. According to CBS Sports, he may not be able to pitch before May.
For Patrick Corbin, this deal gives him the opportunity to relaunch his career. After spending the last six seasons with the Washington Nationals, he ended his time in the capital with poor results.
He had a combined 5.62 ERA over the last five seasons and led the National League in losses between 2021 and 2023.

Patrick Corbin once was one of the most sought-after starters in the Major Leagues before signing with the Washington Nationals before the 2019 season. That deal earned him a whopping $140 million over six seasons.
