Red Sox infielder Kristian Campbell has had an amazing week. He made his MLB debut on Thursday and recorded his first career hit that day. On Saturday, he hit his first career home run and almost made a Web Gem-worthy catch in his first game as a left fielder.
The team’s front office wants to build something special, and now they are looking to lock him up for a long time in Massachusetts. MassLive.com has reported that Campbell and the Red Sox are getting close to a contract extension.
«What he did yesterday, that’s who he is,» manager Alex Cora said on NESN before Sunday’s game. «He is going to hit fastballs from left-center all the way down to the line. Offspeed pitches, he is going to crush them. The plate discipline is there. Is this the final product? Not at all.»
Alex Cora said that he watched YouTube videos of Kristian Campbell during Spring Training. The infielder wasn’t hitting well earlier in March. «He was off in Spring Training,» Cora said. «We had conversations about him—what should we do? And then, little by little, he felt better.»
MassLive.com didn’t report the details of a potential agreement between the 23-year-old and his team, but it said that things were heating up and seemed to be close.
“I just leave that to my agents», Campbell said after Saturday’s game. «And let them talk back and forth and work out what is gonna be done, and we’ll listen for sure. … They’re talking back and forth, I know that for a fact.“

Jackson Chourio’s contract could be a clue about what a potential deal between Kristian Campbell and the Red Sox might look like. The Brewers outfielder signed an $82 million, eight-year contract last year before his Major League debut.
