Garrett Crochet joined the Red Sox in the offseason, aiming to become Boston’s ace from now on. Well, he’ll have that status for the next six seasons, thanks to the multimillion-dollar deal he just signed.
The left-hander and the team’s front office reached a mega-deal this Tuesday, under which the pitcher will earn $170 million.
Crochet just had his best season in the Major Leagues, his first full season in the MLB. Thanks to that, he became the most coveted pitcher on the market. The White Sox, in the midst of a restructuring, traded him for four prospects.
The Fenway Park owners traded Venezuelan Wikelman González, Chase Meidroth, Braden Montgomery, and Kyle Teel to acquire their current number one.
Now they’ve also committed to paying him an average of nearly $30 million per season, through 2031.
Garrett Crochet is coming off a 209-strikeout 146.0 innings for Chicago. In 32 starts, he finished with a 6-12 record, but with only 33 walks and a 4.1 bWAR.
He started the Opening Day for the Red Sox, after shining in Spring Training with a 0.57 ERA in 5 outings.

Garrett Crochet was a candidate to become free agent after next season. In his debut with the Red Sox, last week, he allowed 5 hits and 2 runs in 5.0 innings against the Rangers. The ace left the game with a no-decision, striking out 4 and walking 2.
