Connor Wong doesn’t want to stay on the injured list much longer. Alex Cora told him he’s expected to be ready in about two and a half weeks, but “that’s too much,” the Boston Red Sox catcher told his manager.
The 28-year-old suffered a pinky fracture on his throwing hand during a catcher’s interference play in a game against the Toronto Blue Jays earlier in April. He has already spent 11 days on the IL but is making progress in his recovery.
«He’s better,» manager Alex Cora told reporters on Friday afternoon. «He’s hitting off the tee today. [Connor Wong] done some defensive work, but hasn’t actually caught yet. I gave him a timeline, and he said, ‘What? That’s too late.’ We need to add more work over the next few days. Hopefully, he feels good. He’s going to be okay.»
The coming days will be challenging for Alex Cora and Craig Breslow in terms of roster decisions. They are set to activate reliever Liam Hendriks this weekend, while Brayan Bello and Lucas Giolito are also expected to return next week.
On Friday night, the team made some roster moves to recall pitcher Hunter Dobbins, who was scheduled to start against the Chicago White Sox.
That means they will need to make around five roster moves in the coming days

Carlos Narváez has handled the Boston Red Sox’s catching duties during Connor Wong’s stint on the IL. He has caught eight of the team’s last nine games since Wong was injured in a play against the Toronto Blue Jays on April 7.
