The Boston Red Sox are expected to have their full rotation back in the majors next week. Lucas Giolito is likely to make one more rehab start before returning to the big leagues, nearly a year after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
The 30-year-old pitcher has been working on some mechanical adjustments during his recent outings in Triple-A. He has made four appearances between Portland and Worcester, allowing seven runs over 12 innings, with 13 strikeouts and seven walks.
«Most likely in Toronto,» said Alex Cora to reporters before the second game against the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday, when asked about when he expects Giolito to join the club and make his first appearance with the Red Sox. «The last one [on Thursday].»
Lucas Giolito signed a two-year, $37 million contract with the Red Sox in January 2024. He began experiencing discomfort in his right elbow during last year’s Spring Training, which ultimately required Tommy John surgery.
His last game in the majors was on October 1, 2023, with the Cleveland Guardians.
Giolito will face the Syracusse Mets, which is the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, on Friday.
