The Boston Red Sox have assembled one of the best outfields in franchise history. Soon, they’ll face a major challenge when they need to call up baseball’s No. 1 prospect, Roman Anthony. But things could get even more complicated in the near future, as they recently traded for Yophery Rodríguez.
Rodríguez is a 19-year-old outfielder from the Dominican Republic. He was the top international prospect in the 2023–24 class for the Milwaukee Brewers. The young outfielder signed for a $1.5 million bonus and was ranked as the Brewers’ No. 11 prospect by MLB Pipeline.
«He has great talent,» a National League scout told El Emergente, speaking on condition of anonymity. «I think he’ll be able to hit 20 home runs in the MLB. He’s currently a center fielder, but I think he’ll end up in right field. He has an above-average arm.»
Rodríguez has been playing mostly in center field during his first two years in the Minor League system. He has only appeared in 13 games in right and left field so far. Rodriguez hit 7 home runs last year in the Carolina League, which, according to a source, is a very good sign of his potential as a hitter.
«He has a 104 MPH exit velocity off his bat,» said a scout in a phone call after the Boston Red Sox acquired him for pitcher Quinn Priester. «That’s pretty impressive for a player as young as he is. He’s a very strong hitter, but he doesn’t have much ability to hit to all fields.»
Yophery Rodríguez slashed .250/.343/.343 with 23 doubles, 7 home runs, 60 RBIs, and 59 runs in his first year in the United States. He started the 2025 season in High-A with 5 hits in his first 12 at-bats.

Yophery Rodríguez was immediately ranked as the No. 11 prospect in the impressive Boston Red Sox farm system by MLB Pipeline. It seems likely that he will need to improve his running ability. «He’s currently a 40–45 on the 80-grade scale,» said a National League scout. «He’s not a plus runner.»
