The Toronto Blue Jays finally got their gem. The team’s front office had been pushing for a long-term commitment with a baseball star—and they finally got it. Infielder Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Blue Jays will be together for a long time.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported on Monday morning that the Dominican slugger will sign a 14-year extension worth $500 million. The initial report was made by Mike Rodriguez. It’s the largest contract in Blue Jays history.
It was reported back in February that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had set a deadline to finalize an extension. He stated that if both parties didn’t reach an agreement by February 18th, he would test the free agent market in November. He didn’t want to be distracted during the season—but it seems he changed his mind.
The deal is not official yet. Rodríguez reported that the team will announce it once they return to Toronto. The Blue Jays are set to begin a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox on Monday.
However, Jeff Passan reported that Guerrero Jr. will earn his money with no deferrals. He secured this deal following the best season of his career—especially considering that in 2021 he played mostly in a Minor League park due to COVID-19 restrictions.
In 2024, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. slashed .323/.396/.544, with 44 doubles, 30 home runs, 72 walks, 103 RBIs, and 98 runs scored.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was expected to be the most important free agent in November. His new deal will run from 2026 through 2040. He is currently hitting .256/.333/.333 with 3 doubles, 4 RBIs, and 3 runs scored in his first 10 games of the season.
