The Boston Red Sox have lost five of their last six games, dropping their record below .500 for the first time since early April.
Alex Cora’s team remains in the mix in the tightly contested American League East, sitting just 2.5 games behind the New York Yankees — the first team in the division to reach 20 wins in 2025.
«I’m not concerned,» said Cora after the Red Sox’s 6–1 loss to the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night. «It’s part of the season. Are we happy about what’s going on? Of course not. We believe we’re better. We’re going to keep working, and we’re going to be better — hopefully sooner rather than later.»
The Red Sox have also lost six of their last 10 games and three of their last four at Fenway Park.
On Wednesday, the Red Sox snapped a 16-game streak in which their starter went at least five innings. Lucas Giolito pitched only 3.2 innings, allowing six runs on ten hits in his second appearance with Boston.
The Red Sox still have two more games at home before hitting the road for a trip to Kansas City and Detroit.
They’ve also been hit with key injuries in recent days: Triston Casas suffered a ruptured patellar ligament, and Walker Buehler is dealing with inflammation in his right shoulder.
