Triston Casas was carted off the field at Fenway Park and taken to the hospital after a scary moment on Friday night. The infielder reached first base following an error by the Minnesota Twins’ infield, then collapsed to the ground due to an undisclosed injury.
Alex Cora expressed concern after the Red Sox’s 6–1 win over the Twins. He confirmed that Casas is still at the hospital being evaluated by the medical staff.
“It’s a significant injury,” said Alex Cora, even before reporters asked a question about the game. “He’s at the hospital right now getting more tests. We’ll have more information tomorrow. It’s tough. He worked so hard. We want him on the field. It was a hustle play—and that happened.”
Romy González entered as a pinch runner immediately after Triston Casas’ injury and then stayed in the game as the first baseman.
“You put so much effort in during the offseason,” Cora added. “Everything he went through in the offseason—he was looking forward to having a great season for us. He didn’t start the way he wanted, but he kept working, and now this happened.”
The Red Sox were not ready to comment on what roster move they’ll make next. Many are speculating that this could be the opportunity to call up MLB top prospect Roman Anthony, though other options like Vaughn Grissom and Abraham Toro remain in play.
