Walker Buehler flew back to Boston this week to have his right shoulder examined and is likely headed to the Injured List.
According to MassLive.com, the veteran pitcher didn’t bounce back well after his last outing and is now dealing with shoulder discomfort. Alex Cora has already made adjustments to the Red Sox rotation, though there’s no official word yet on the severity of the injury.
Brayan Bello was supposed to start on Saturday against the Minnesota Twins. He will now pitch on Friday night, according to The Athletic. Jen McCaffrey reports that Alex Cora hasn’t yet named a starter for Saturday’s game. It’s likely that Hunter Dobbins will be recalled from Triple-A Worcester, as he was scratched from his outing on Thursday night.
Walker Buehler started the second game of last Saturday’s doubleheader in Cleveland, allowing three runs over six innings with three strikeouts. He was scheduled to return to the mound for Friday’s game at Fenway.
The Red Sox could also turn to Sean Newcomb for Saturday’s game. He has pitched only one inning over the past week, coming out of the bullpen during the Cleveland series.
Garrett Crochet is still scheduled to pitch on Sunday.
