Alex Bregman and Masataka Yoshida are progressing toward a return to the Red Sox at some point in July.
The Boston Red Sox third baseman took grounders and ran the bases, while the Japanese-born outfielder completed a full workout on Saturday. Yoshida caught fly balls in the outfield, ran the bases, and took live batting practice. He will remain with the big-league club through Sunday before joining the WooSox for a rehab assignment on Tuesday.
«It was a good day for Bregman and Masa,» said manager Alex Cora on Saturday, before adding some additional context in Spanish. «Bregman is feeling better. He’s running at 80 percent. He already took grounders and made some swings. There’s no timetable yet, but we feel comfortable with his progress.»
Masataka Yoshida said on Friday that he expects to be ready before the All-Star Break, which is two weeks away.
“That would be great», Cora added on Saturday. «Let’s see how many at-bats he needs. We need to map out how many games at the outfield and DH. When he feels good with his hitting, he will be with us.”
For Yoshida, it’s been a long road since undergoing right shoulder surgery back in October.
«For me, being able to go back out there as an outfielder was the goal when I decided to have this surgery,» said Masataka Yoshida through his interpreter, Yutaro Yamaguchi, on Friday ahead of the series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays. «I’m just walking toward that goal.»

«It’s good, it’s refreshing,» said Alex Cora after watching Alex Bregman back working out in the field on Saturday. «But I think at the end of the day, we got a job to do. And we have lost six in a row. We have been in games and we had leading games and we haven’t won.»
