The Boston Red Sox opened their series against the Toronto Blue Jays with some encouraging news, as several injured players are nearing a return — including Alex Bregman.
Bregman is scheduled to take grounders on Saturday after facing live pitching on Friday. While there’s no official timetable for his return, the expectation is that he could be back shortly after the All-Star Break if everything progresses smoothly.
«It’s week five,» said manager Alex Cora on Friday, referring to his third baseman’s recovery process ahead of the series opener against the Blue Jays. «We’ll reassess the situation in week six, and from there, we’ll probably have a better idea of when he’s going to come back.»
Alex Bregman, who is recovering from a knee injury, posted several workout videos on Instagram — some from Fenway Park and others from around Boston — during the team’s recent road trip to the West Coast.
«I don’t think he’s pushing it,» Cora said of Bregman. «He’s pushing because he feels good. So we just have to be patient and smart about it. When he’s ready, he’s ready.»
The good news for the Red Sox is that both Bregman and Masataka Yoshida appear to be on track to return around the same time, potentially giving the team a key boost.

«You had him and Alex, and we got two really good at-bats,» said manager Alex Cora on Friday. «We saw it in Spring Training when they were playing together at one point. It was Jarren Duran, Alex, and Masa, and the line was moving, and we expect the same thing when they get back.»
