For Abraham Toro, it took about three months to fall into his first slump of the 2025 season.
The Boston Red Sox infielder became a hero when first baseman Triston Casas went down with a season-ending injury. After Rafael Devers declined to fill the first base vacancy, Toro stepped up and did a lot of damage in his first month with the big-league club.
«Just the season,» said manager Alex Cora regarding Abraham Toro’s recent struggles. «That’s part of the season. He is still putting [together] good at-bats and not getting hits. He has been playing a lot. That hasn’t happened in a while for him. Just make sure to take care of him.»
Abraham Toro is slashing .154/.195/.179, with a double, six hits, one walk, two runs, and nine strikeouts over his last 12 games. In fact, he has just one hit in his last nine at-bats.
But Cora is right — Toro had a great Spring Training and crushed it when he was optioned to Triple-A before the season began. Once he got the call from the Red Sox, he raked, slashing .330/.354/.574 with eight doubles, five homers, and 12 RBIs during his first month with the big-league club.
«Just have to take care of him,» said Cora.
Despite his struggles, Abraham Toro was in the third spot of the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Boston Red Sox made a couple of roster moves on Saturday. Chris Murphy is back with the big-league club for the first time since 2023. Luis Guerrero was placed on the 15-day IL with a right elbow strain, and Justin Slaten was moved to the 60-day IL.
