Alex Cora’s patience with Trevor Story seems to be paying off, as the shortstop has nine hits in his last 18 at-bats. It appears the veteran is finally waking up after a very difficult May.
The infielder is in his best form since early April, when he slashed .353/.365/.510 with two doubles and two home runs from April 4 to April 15. He went hitless only once during that span. On Tuesday, Story extended his current hitting streak to four games, his third-longest of the season
«Good swing, staying on the fastball, staying up the middle—since Milwaukee,» said manager Alex Cora on Monday, after the shortstop recorded his third consecutive multi-hit game. «He’s also played great defense. He made some really good, athletic plays today.»
The shortstop recorded his second home run in three nights on Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays. He now has four consecutive multi-hit games as he continues to improve offensively.
«He is in a good spot right now», Cora added.
It seems that way. Trevor Story has recorded at least one hit in nine of his last 14 games, dating back to the trip to Milwaukee that Alex Cora mentioned. He has also hit three doubles and two home runs since that series against the Brewers.
Before that trip to Milwaukee, Story was slashing .146/.186/.195, with one double, one home run, three walks, and 28 strikeouts in 21 games.

Trevor Story has played 65 games this season, including Tuesday’s matchup against the Rays. That’s nearly the same number of games he played over the past two seasons combined—just 69 games between 2023 and 2024. He’s now only 35 games away from reaching his first 100-game season since 2021.
