The World Baseball Classic will be back in eight months, and it seems that the tournament has been growing in the past few years. The 2023 edition was an absolute success, and many players are already thinking about it, including Alex Bregman.
Bregman already participated with the United States in 2017, but he has been praising his connections with his Jewish roots recently, especially after October 2023. He has spoken with Boston Herald reporter Gabrielle Starr many times about it, and he told the Houston Chronicle that he will consider representing Israel.
«It’s definitely something that is on my radar,» said the Red Sox third baseman to El Emergente on Monday. «Down the road, I will be thinking about it a little bit more. Right now, my complete focus is on this season. After this rehab process, I will think about it a little bit more.»
Alex Bregman is currently recovering from a right knee strain he suffered a month ago. He is close to returning to the Boston Red Sox and, in fact, completed a full workout on Monday at Fenway Park.
The infielder has a rich history representing his hometown in international events, including the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
«Honestly, I’ve played for Team USA for pretty much my whole career, since I was growing up,» said the infielder. «15U, 16U, 17U, 18U, college twice. And I played in the WBC with Team USA before.»
Team USA has already announced many important additions for next year’s roster, led by their new captain Aaron Judge. Bobby Witt Jr. and Paul Skenes have also committed to next year’s tournament.
But will Alex Bregman consider playing for Israel if he participates in the tournament?
“We will see what happens,” he said.

Team Israel will play in Pool D in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. The team has already announced that Ian Kinsler will return as their manager. On the other hand, Mark DeRosa will be managing Team USA in Pool B, which will play in Houston, Texas.
