The rain ruined the Boston Red Sox’s plans for Masataka Yoshida on Tuesday.
The WooSox didn’t play due to the weather and will instead have a doubleheader on Wednesday. Yoshida’s rehab assignment was postponed by a day and is now scheduled to begin on Wednesday. He will serve as the designated hitter in the first game.
«I’m not sure what we are doing tomorrow,» said manager Alex Cora on Wednesday, ahead of a doubleheader against the Cincinnati Reds. «We can’t go against [the weather]. He’s probably playing only the first game.»
The WooSox will play again at Polar Park on Thursday and then head to Syracuse for the July 4th weekend.
The Red Sox aren’t sure if Masataka Yoshida will travel with the Triple-A team or move to Double-A Portland, which will be at home for the holiday.
The original plan for the Japanese-born player was to play as a DH on Tuesday and Wednesday, and then play in the outfield for the first time on Thursday. It’s still unclear whether he will play in the outfield before the weekend.
Cora also announced that it’s very likely Cooper Criswell will be the 27th man for Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Reds.
The second game will be a bullpen game, as Brayan Bello will take the ball for Tuesday’s suspended game, which will resume in the fourth inning.

Alex Bregman will remain in Boston for the weekend. He had a «less intense» workout on Wednesday, but he still ran the bases and took grounders. «There is nothing imminent,» said manager Alex Cora regarding the timeline for the return of the infielder from the IL.
