Only 13 pitchers in MLB history have accomplished what Aroldis Chapman did on Wednesday, with Kenley Jansen being the most recent in 2021.
The lefty saved the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader for the Boston Red Sox. He now has 15 saves in 2025 and became the 14th pitcher to reach 350 career saves.
«I want to join the 400 saves club,» said Aroldis Chapman in Spanish on Wednesday after the Red Sox beat the Cincinnati Reds 5-3. «I know it is not an easy task, but that’s my goal. And I will keep working hard to reach that number. The only thing I do is work, take care of myself, and try to stay healthy. It is such a blessing.»
Only 8 of the 14 members of the 350 saves club have reached 400 saves.
The 37-year-old is having a great season in 2025. He has allowed just five runs in 35 innings and has a 1.29 ERA. In his last 14 innings, he has allowed only one unearned run.
During that stretch, he has walked just two hitters and struck out 23.
«I am doing the job that I love,» he said. «The only thing I have been focused on is keeping hard work and trying to improve my control. That’s the biggest issue I’ve had in my career. I’m really happy to have a healthy arm after a long time doing this.»
«To be honest, it’s such a blessing to be behind the dish when he is pitching,» said rookie catcher Carlos Narváez. «Earlier in the year, I remember thinking, ‘Man, I will be calling pitches to Chappy.’ Looking back, I never expected something like this. He is a great athlete and professional. I think he has more in the tank.»

«I think that the save that will be unforgettable will be the last one,» said Aroldis Chapman in Spanish. «I believe that every closer in the game has a goal to close every game and to be able to accumulate your saves for when you have to retire.»
