Wilyer Abreu has driven in six of the 17 runs the Boston Red Sox have scored so far in 2026.
There doesn’t seem to be any panic over the team’s poor results in the first two series of the season. Roman Anthony, Willson Contreras, and Alex Cora understand that the season is just getting started. That’s why the manager is not looking to draw conclusions about the lineup configuration after only six games.
«He is doing a great job and, uh, I think just six games into the season are not going to dictate what we do lineup wise,» said manager Alex Cora on Friday. «Yeah, you make adjustments and all, but if we trusted the lineup on Opening Day, how come I’m not gonna trust the lineup in the home opener six days after that?»
Wilyer Abreu is the story in Boston right now after starting the year with a .417/.417/.917 slash line. Of his 10 hits, six have gone for extra bases, including three home runs.
The Venezuelan standout has been so hot that he alone has as many home runs as the rest of the team combined.
In addition to his six RBIs, Wilyer Abreu has also scored three runs.

Wilyer Abreu led the team in home runs, doubles, RBIs, hits, and OPS over the first six games of the season. Alex Cora said a few days ago that he believed the Venezuelan’s production was “sustainable” over time.
